Perivoli Schools Trust celebrates its first teacher graduation in Zimbabwe: a milestone for early childhood education

Celebrating 120 Teachers Building Brighter Futures with the Perivoli Schools Teacher Training Programme in Zimbabwe

Perivoli Schools Trust (PST) marked an important milestone in Early Childhood Development (ECD) in Zimbabwe in Bulawayo on 25 July, with the graduation of 120 teachers from the Perivoli Schools Trust programme. These teachers represent the first group to graduate from its teacher training programme since PST launched its work in Zimbabwe two and a half years ago. The graduation recognises the commitment of teachers who have taken part in Perivoli Schools Trust’s teacher training programme, based on practical approaches to early childhood education and development. The programme supports teachers to create engaging, play-based learning environments using locally available and low-cost materials. Training is reinforced through ongoing mentorship and classroom support, helping teachers put new approaches to early childhood development into practice with the children they teach every day.

Bringing Play-Based Learning to Life

The graduation also gave teachers the opportunity to demonstrate what they had learned. Selected teachers each presented one of the 12 Perivoli Schools Trust classroom learning corners, showing how locally available and low-cost materials can be transformed into purposeful learning spaces that support children’s early learning and development.

A teacher from the graduating cohort also addressed the event, reflecting on the positive experience of taking part in the programme.

Continued Training & Support Beyond Graduation

Each of the 120 graduating teachers will now enter the Maintenance phase, where Perivoli Schools Trust Trainers continue to visit teachers quarterly in their classrooms and deliver modules covering storytelling, global warming, natural farming and family health.

The event was attended by PST Programme Founder James Alexandroff, CEO Titan Madomba, Senior Regional Coordinator Beatrice Kamanga and Perivoli Schools Trust Trainers from Zimbabwe.

Growing the Perivoli Schools Trust Programme Across Zimbabwe

From this first graduating cohort, Perivoli Schools Trust’s work in Zimbabwe has continued to grow. Around 1,100 teachers are now participating in the teacher training programme, extending its reach to more early childhood classrooms, teachers and communities across Zimbabwe and supporting the development of stronger foundations for children's learning.

Supporting Early Childhood Development in Zimbabwe

Through its teacher training programme, Perivoli Schools Trust is supporting early childhood development in Zimbabwe by equipping teachers with practical approaches to play-based learning, classroom design and child-centred education. The programme is designed to work within local contexts, using resources that are readily available to teachers and communities.

“We had a wonderful first ever graduation ceremony in Bulawayo. We are looking forward to many more to come!”
